Custom Cellar Renovations for A to Z Wineworks
Being in the Willamette Valley gives us the wonderful opportunity to work with so many local wineries. From sign fabrication to custom-made railings to whole catwalk projects, wineries keep us busy. Recently, we were working with A to Z Wineworks in Newberg, Oregon.
A to Z Wineworks came to us needing some custom-designed staircases, catwalks and railings in their cellar. They were making renovations to include new tanks and optimize the space they have. The beginning of our partnership with A to Z included a lot of collaboration with the architect, structural engineer, contractor (Walsh Construction), and the winery owner. We worked with everybody to agree on a design that met everybody’s needs and concerns. We drew up the plans with our 3D rendering software to allow everyone involved an accurate concept of what we were going to build.
Once the design was agreed upon, we started fabricating one of the sections of stairs and adjoining catwalk. Overall, we had about four stages of fabrication and install. Because of the other construction going on in the cellar, we had to time our portions of the project with the progress of the whole job. The majority of the material we used for the custom stairs and catwalks was aluminum with the addition of the fiberglass grating used for the walkways on the catwalks.
The project ran smoothly as Walsh Construction was organized and easy to work with. The most challenging part was just making sure all the connections and the small details were right. There were no major hiccups and all the installations ran smoothly. Now A to Z’s cellar will be in tip top shape for the quickly approaching harvest season!
